MexicoGP: The Best Opening and Closing Show in F1

The Mexican Grand Prix is not only known for its passion for speed—it is also celebrated for its unique ability to merge sport and culture into an unforgettable show. This year, MexicoGP was awarded the Grand Prize for the “Best Opening and Closing Show”, recognizing the creativity and talent behind the event. And we, at @alesuart, had the honor of being part of this magical experience.

Recognition and Its Importance

MexicoGP has proven once again that it is far more than a car race. This award highlights not only impeccable organization, but also the event’s ability to showcase the richness of Mexican culture on a global platform.

Formula 1 is followed by millions worldwide, and MexicoGP has embraced that spotlight to share our traditions, colors, and symbolism—from mariachis to Catrinas—reminding the world who we are and where we come from.

This recognition is a reminder that when sport, art, and passion come together, the result can be truly extraordinary. Every detail in MexicoGP becomes a living tribute to Mexican identity—an experience that resonates beyond the track.

The Participation of the Catrinas

Our participation in MexicoGP 2024 has its roots in a very special project: “The Journey of the Ánimas”, born in 2022 as a tribute to our deepest traditions. One of its most memorable moments was the creation of a unique Catrina whose dress was made entirely of natural cempasúchil flowers—an homage to the essence of Day of the Dead.

Behind that creation was a titanic effort: more than 11 people worked for 12 consecutive hours to bring the Catrina to life. Every detail—floral headpiece design, finishing touches, and symbolism—was carefully crafted. Thanks to this project, Formula 1 noticed our work and invited us as cultural ambassadors to represent Mexico in the paddock at MexicoGP 2024.

A Full Team, A Precise Timeline

This year, we had the honor of presenting three of our best Catrinas, accompanied by a charro to complete the cultural representation. Our team began preparing early—at 7:00 a.m. we started makeup to ensure every detail was perfect for the paddock parade at 10:00 a.m.

  • Makeup: Marian Santos (@soymarian.mua), Julio Fabila (@juliofabila_art), and Alejandro Su (@alesuart).

Makeup Inspired by Couture

Each makeup design was inspired by the dresses worn by our models—unique pieces that have been worn by celebrities such as Ángela Aguilar and have walked international runways like Miss Universe. To keep everything camera-ready, we performed retouching every hour, ensuring the makeup remained intact and radiant throughout the event.

Our models—Daryel Fabián (@dary_dancer), Mhya Bornacelly (@mhyabornacelly), and Zoe González (@zoeglz.12)—wore these looks with pride, capturing the attention of drivers, teams, and fans across the paddock.

Culture, Art, and Passion

Being part of MexicoGP 2024 was unforgettable—not only because we shared our traditions with the world, but because we witnessed how art can create connection when fueled by passion and dedication. Seeing people interact with our Catrinas, take photos, and express admiration reminded us that Mexican culture has the power to unite people across borders.

I want to thank every person who made this possible—from designers to models, and every collaborator behind the scenes. And congratulations to the MexicoGP team for this incredible recognition. We are proud to have been part of this story. MexicoGP proves that when sport, culture, and art come together, the result is an experience that transcends borders.
