About this experience

Day of the Dead Cemetery Tour — Oaxaca is an intimate cultural and gastronomic night designed to help you understand why we celebrate, not just what you see. You’ll visit deeply local cemeteries, join a real family moment of remembrance, and share a traditional seasonal dinner with mezcal and an Ofrenda ritual at the altar.

Hosted by Lembranza México and offered in collaboration with @alesuart, this experience has welcomed international storytelling projects — including guiding Discovery Channel in 2024 and a National Geographic UK journalist in 2025.

Experience Highlights

  • Meeting point in the city center: Jardín Morelos with a clear introduction to the tradition.
  • Panteón de Pueblo Nuevo: a very local cemetery where we visit the grave of a close friend of our family.
  • Hands-on moment: we help decorate the grave and share the meaning of honoring our dead.
  • Traditional seasonal dinner: Mole Chichilo (funeral mole), hot chocolate, and bread.
  • Mezcal and our magical Ofrenda ritual at the altar.
  • Atzompa Cemetery (Coco-inspired): color, music, and incredible energy — ideal for portraits.
  • Xoxocotlán Cemetery: one of Oaxaca’s most famous cemeteries and the final stop of the night.
  • We’ll always guide you on what is respectful to do, observe, and photograph.

Note: October 31st is the most important night. Streets and traffic can be intense, and small delays may happen. We recommend coming with open hearts, patience and well rested.

Dietary needs: We can accommodate vegans, vegetarians, and specific allergies.
